When Nothing Goes As Planned…

Birth Trauma

Even with the best plans, the best prep and the best medical team, things don’t always go as planned. Whether you experienced unexpected complications, medical interventions you weren’t prepared for or are reeling from feelings of loss of control, I am here to make you feel seen and validated in your experiences.

Together we will work to establish a sense of empowerment over your birth journey while we unpack your feelings related to your pregnancy, birth and postpartum. The feelings surrounding birth trauma can feel suffocating and isolating. You may think you don’t “deserve” to feel the way you feel because you and the baby are both healthy, but your experiences are valid and you deserve the space to process through those complex feelings. You don’t have to face these isolating feelings alone, there is hope for healing after birth trauma.

So your baby is in the NICU…

Even if you know your baby is going to end up in the NICU, the unique stress and rollercoater of uncertainty that surrounds a NICU stay is overwhelming with preparation, let alone having your baby unexpectedly and urgently whisked away from you shortly after what you thought was a “normal” pregnancy and delivery. The fear, worry, guilt and grief that rotate as the lead actor in your brain can feel all consuming and paralyzing. Add to that the challenging dynamics of medical uncertainty, communication and advocacy with healthcare professionals and the demands of trying to balance the needs of everyone in the family and very quickly your own emotional well-being is on the back-burner. I can help you navigate the complexities of a NICU stay and also support you in finding ways to bond with your baby, which is more than possible during this journey.

I can provide a compassionate and non-judgmental space where you can explore all of your emotions and fears, offer targeted support and guidance in navigating the complexities of a NICU stay and partner with your baby’s medical team to provide comprehensive support for the whole family.
